MPOROKOSO CHARTS ITS COURSE AS DELIMITATION PROCESS SITTING COMMENCES.

Stakeholders in Mporokoso convened in the Central Business District as the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) commenced District Delimitation Sittings, part of a nationwide exercise being conducted across all 116 districts of Zambia.
District Electoral Officer Mr. Henry Siwakwi officiated at the event and described the exercise as a significant constitutional undertaking arising from the Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Act No. 13 of 2025, which increased constituency-based seats in the National Assembly from 156 to 226.
“This process is about strengthening our democracy and ensuring fair and equitable representation in response to population growth and settlement patterns,” he said, urging stakeholders to participate transparently and constructively.
The engagement was attended by His Royal Highness Chief Mumpolokoso, three Sub-Chiefs and their representatives, the representative of the Member of Parliament for Mporokoso Constituency, the Mporokoso Town Council Chairperson, the District Commissioner, the District Joint Operations Committee (DJOC), Ward Councillors, Ward Development Committee members, and community members.
Deliberations were described as robust and participatory.
Following consensus-building discussions, stakeholders adopted the proposal. They further agreed that the proposed name for the new constituency be Lumangwe Constituency, while the existing constituency will retain the name Mporokoso Constituency and remain with seven wards.

District Electoral Officer Mr. Henry Siwakwi clarified that the district’s resolutions will be submitted at the forthcoming Provincial Sitting for further consideration before being forwarded to the Commission.
Members of the public are encouraged to attend and actively participate in the Provincial hearing as part of the ongoing delimitation process.
