Mporokoso is one of the twelve (12) districts in Northern Province, located on the D19 Road, 180 Kilometers (Km) north of Kasama the Provincial Capital of Northern Province. The District shares boundaries with Kaputa and Nsama Districts on the north, Mpulungu District in the northeast, Lunte on the south and Kawambwa District on the southwest.
The District has a surface area of approximately 4, 143 km2 of which only close to 0.2% percent is under leasehold tenure while the remaining 99.8 percent is under customary (Traditional).
Mporokoso District is the home of the Mighty Lumangwe Falls second from Victoria Falls, then Kabwelume, Mumbuluma, Yangumwila, Lupupa and Kapumo falls. Of the aforementioned waterfalls the most visited are Lumangwe and Kabwelume ward.
