Maize farming is a major activity in Mporokoso, supported by fertile soils and good rainfall. Most farmers grow maize through small-scale farming, using inputs from FISP. Planting begins with the rains in November, followed by regular weeding and pest management, especially against Fall Armyworm. Despite challenges, farmers remain committed and benefit from extension services and improved seed varieties. Maize is important both as a staple food and as a source of income through sales to FRA and local markets. Harvesting between May and July ensures household food security, making maize farming a vital part of life and the local economy in Mporokoso.
